履痕足跡――成大山協甲子展

成大山協是全國歷史最悠久的大學登山社，為慶祝成立六十週年，以臺灣高山的壯麗景觀、各時代裝備、出版品及山野活動的照片影片，記錄一甲子的發展與變化。這是每位社員冒險奮鬥的經歷，也是年輕人在臺灣高山上成長蜕變的精彩故事。期待成大師生瞭解國內登山運動發展與成大山協歷史傳承，激勵在校社員，並勾起畢業社員往日情懷與甜蜜回憶。

Locus and Focus︰60^th Anniversary Exhibition of NCKU Mountaineering Association

NCKU Mountaineering Association has the longest history among its peers in the field of mountaineering in national universities. To celebrate her sixtieth anniversary, we use the photos of the magnificent natural landscape, mountain gear, outfits, related publications, and outdoor activities to demonstrate the Association's development and evolution over the past sixty years. These objects are milestones, marking the details of the days filled with amazing adventures. The glorious experience is a series of stories telling the changes and growth of the teenagers spending their time in the mountains. We are looking forward to letting people know the development of mountaineering in Taiwan, recalling the alumni's unforgettable memories, and encouraging our Association members at the same time.

後記︰

一.這是成大博物館侑叡為介紹館內展場而邀稿，要求150字以內，我找出初次寄給侑叡的電郵，一再刪減，不含標題，包括標點符號共157字，三句話加三個句號，不能再減。

二.博物館要求展場所有文字都要有英譯，因此籌備組織中有英譯編輯，我邀請外文系100級北極星隊曾任社長的Gigi擔任，Gigi一天（其實是一晚）完成，再請朋友潤飾，67級小熊隊吳雪舫學長、侑叡與72級小熊隊小黑都有提一些建議，綜合而成。英文真是博大精深，翻譯的推敲空間很大，詳細比較各版本很有趣。

三.展覽名稱「成大山協甲子展」是去年成立大會前就定好的，簡短清晰，但難免平鋪直敘少些韻味，雪舫在前面加上「履痕足跡」就更精彩了。

「履痕足跡――成大山協甲子展」，「履痕足跡」為主標題，闡釋精神，「成大山協甲子展」為副標題，解釋之用。成大博物館亦有「印象蘇雪林――最後的一位五四作家」、「航空先驅――王助教授」等展覽名稱，近年主、副標題並列很常見。

雪舫解釋，「履痕」一詞出自唐/劉長卿〈尋南溪常山道人隱居〉詩：「一路經行處，莓苔見履痕。」正足以形容我輩所為。

四.我提醒那「――」是破折號，依教育部《重訂標點符號手冊》規定：

1.位置：占行中二格。

2.說明：用於語意的轉變、聲音的延續，或在行文中為補充說明某詞語之處，而此說明後文氣需要停頓。

關於標點符號，我在小學時代普遍知之甚詳，從前比較注重，很少弄錯。如今太多人弄不清楚，逾九成的人都誤解破折號的形式，僅用一格或半格。

五.展覽名稱英譯「Locus and Focus︰60^th Anniversary Exhibition of NCKU Mountaineering Association」，與中文輝映。

「Locus and Focus」也是雪舫提出的，學貫中西，文采豐盛。

有人提議用EXPO，雪舫提出解釋︰

Exposition is, like trade fair, used for large scale exhibition of certain goods or technologies, usually many companies participate such an exhibition.

Exhibition is usually refer to certain show of a specific skill or product such as paintings.

So EXPO is not an appropriate term for our event.

六.「成大山協」全名為「成功大學登山協會」，這名稱有歷史背景與發展過程，英譯為「NCKU Mountaineering Association」。「成大登山薪傳協會」英譯為「NCKU Alumni Mountaineering Association」，已在理監事會議中討論定案。

OB這名稱來自日本，稱做和式英文，歐美不這樣用，幾經討論，畢業社員或校友的英譯還是用alumni比較正式。我曾寫過一篇〈OB名稱初考〉說明。

七.sixtieth anniversary—→60th anniversary—→60^th anniversary，英文翻譯的潤飾推敲確實有趣，在在都有學問。

八.標點符號的破折號「――」是中文的規定，英文沒這規定，使用破折號並不適當，因此英譯用「︰」才對。

九.大家熱心貢獻心力與智慧，才有這成果。多做多學，有付出必有收穫，也才有收穫，是我的心得。
